Welcome,
My name is Alex Jefferies,

I am a pianist and composer currently residing in Wellington, New Zealand.

My journey in music began when I started piano lessons at age 6. I attended Scots College from 2014-2018, and this was where I began to blossom as a musician, going from Grade 3 to Grade 8 in less than a year, and becoming the principal pianist for The Strathmore Singers by 2015. I performed in The Big Sing alongside the choir in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

I began further study at the New Zealand School of Music in 2019 under the tutelage of pianists Jian Liu and Hamish Robb, as well as in accompanying/collaborative piano under David Barnard. My composition lecturers included composers Michael Norris and Ewan Clark, and my orchestration composer was Kenneth Young (2019 Mozart Fellow).
I earned my Bachelor of Music (BMus) with Honours in Classical Performance (Piano) and Composition in 2022 and was awarded my Master of Musical Arts (MMA) in November 2024.

I have extensive experience performing in and composing for many different arrangements (including arranging work for renowned composer John Psathas) and ensembles, having worked as a soloist, chamber and orchestral pianist, as well as vocal accompanying and coachings in addition to my extensive choir experience
